Grandpa's Garden Is Blooming
My dad's garden at his house is going strong. The tomato plants are big and starting to get loaded with green tomatoes. We will anxiously wait and watch them as they slowly turn to red.
Dad is trying out a new plant this year. The tomatillo. He has three of them and says that next year he will know to just plant one. There are tons of blooms on each plant. The tomatillo is a Mexican tomato that is covered in a paper shell. Right now the plant looks like they have Chinese lanterns hanging on them. The paper shells grow first and the tomato expands inside the shell. So right now, when you squeeze the paper shells they are full of air!
Dad likes his sunflowers too. These are gigantic!!
The flowers are just starting to form on the plants....
Dad has several varieties of watermelons growing. A mini sized watermelon, reds and yellows. The watermelon beds will probably take over the yard! This is one of four watermelon patches he has in the back yard.....
The zucchini plants are now making....
This is a funky style of spinach that grows on a vine. I tasted a leaf and did not really care for this variety.......It had a dirt flavor to it!
Dad's flowers are blooming now too. His trumpet vine is going strong....
The hydrangea plants are growing like crazy....
and, we don't know what this flower is called, but it is very pretty and the greenery with it is very soft and whispery......
He also has beans, cucumbers, squashes and peppers in his garden. And this is just one garden spot, he has another at his sister's house that is much larger! Can't wait for all those veggies to start flourishing.
