Ribbon Ball Topiary In Mason Jar

Last week I made a ribbon ball topiary for the first time.  I'm very pleased with how it turned out.  I made it for friend Kelly, whose daughter is turning one.  The birthday theme is lemonade stand and the colors are red and yellow.  I already had all the ribbons in my stash, so all I had to purchase was the Styrofoam ball, some straight pins and the dowel rod.  I went with a 6" ball and I think the dowel rod is 3/8".
I cut all the ribbons at 5" in length.  The ribbons were looped and secured into the Styrofoam with two straight pins.
I originally cut 175 pieces of ribbon.  But quickly figured out I would need many more.
I quit counting after I had over 300 cut.  I'm guessing this 6" ball took close to 400 pieces of ribbon !
I think it turned out fantastic !!
We put some floral foam into a mason jar, cut the dowel rod to the height we wanted, then stuffed some natural colored straw in the jar to cover the foam.   We added a ribbon and printed "lemon slice" to the outside of the jar and it was complete.
And here is the birthday girl, Harper, sitting on her lemonade stand with the ribbon topiary.....

Wedding Bridal Shower Ideas and Appetizers

Last Sunday, my Katie hosted a bridal shower for her best friend, who is also a Katie.  I got to host the party too along with Val and we had fun planning and making all the goodies for this party.  Below is Paula Deans lime sherbet punch.  It was very tasty with the lemon and lime slices and very colorful with the bright red cherries.  Click here for the recipe.
This caramel toffee apple dip was the hit of the party.  Click here to get to my post featuring the recipe.
Katie found great ideas for the appetizers.  She got all the square serving dishes 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby and she already had the martini glasses to hold the dip.....
We used a Pottery Barn flower vase to hold the multi colored mini peppers.....
The other white serving pieces are Food Network brand, all purchased 1/2 off at Kohl's over the last couple of years....

The two dips were made with sour cream and powdered Ranch dressing packages.  One dip was made with original ranch that we added some dill and celery seed to and the other was a southwest flavored ranch....
Spinach wraps sliced pretty.....
Little smokies wrapped in bacon, drizzled with brown sugar and baked in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.....
The shower was at the bride's house.  That way she did not have to load up all the gifts and carry them home.  That worked out great!
Katie looking pretty and opening her gifts......
The quilt I made her and Jimmy.  Click here to see the full post on this quilt.
One game was planned for the shower.  We had these candy bars laying out and everyone had to create a story or a list of bullet points giving marriage advice but you had to incorporate the names of the candy bars into what was written.  Katie got to keep everyone's funny advice as a keepsake.....
Katie's mom reading her "candy bar" story......
Sweet baby Macyn.....
Best friends since the third grade, even went to the same college, one became an electrical engineer and one became a labor and delivery nurse.  Looking forward to what else is down the road for these two girls......
