Oh I Love To Pat The Bible

The first time I sat in a church nursery and watched my mother-in-law teach a bible class, I was in amazement.  In awe of how she "commanded" the attention of babies.  How a table of five to six babes sat in awe of her.  What was her secret?  How did she keep a table full of tiny people quiet and still at the same time?  Well, I watched her, I studied her, I sat back and took it all in from my rocking chair in that nursery.  She sat in the curve of her kidney shaped table and her babes sat around the outer side of the table in their little wooden chairs that were crafted to hold them in tight.  Many plastic boxes of treasures surrounded her feet and she would pull them out one by one.  Each box stored her props that went along with its matching song.
If the box came out that held the family figures, then there would be songs about daddy and mama loving their baby.  When the box came out holding little bibles in colors of blue, pink and white, songs would be sung repeatedly while helping little hands clutch their bibles.   The B-I-B-L-E and I Love To Pat The Bible.

The B-I-B-L-E, yes that's the book for me.  I stand alone on the word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.

Oh I love to pat the Bible, the Bible, the Bible, oh I love to pat the Bible, with hands God gave me.

My children and myself have so many wonderful memories of Grandma teaching bible class.  I frequently helped her when my babes were her students.  Sat in that rocking chair across the table from her and memorized her actions and her songs that I later used to teach my own toddler bible classes.

Below is a an old 8mm video of Pat and Buddy teaching class together (no sound)....

Below is a recent video taken of Teacher Pat with her babes......

Thank you Grandma for being such a good example.  Thank you for teaching me how to be a good mom and for the help you gave me in teaching my children about God's love.

  1. I have so many memories of Teacher Pat and her baby class. My children were lucky to be some of her babies. I cherish those memories so much. There was no one better than Teacher Pat.
