Downs Syndrome Is A Pocketful of Sunshine

Baby Luke was born in 2009.  When my sister-in-law and her husband found out during the pregnancy that Luke had Downs Syndrome, there was some apprehension at first.  Going into uncharted territories for the first time was scary.  When Luke came into this world and as the days passed, the joy grew.  He had a rough few months having to undergo surgeries for kidney problems and cataracts, but he was a trooper.  He's still a fighter!  His vision problems don't stop him either, he's a go-getter.

At Christmas last year, he latched on to his grandma and became grandma's boy......
this Thanksgiving and Christmas, he was still grandma's boy, loving to sit in her lap and listen to her silly songs made up just for him.....
being more mobile, Luke was into a lot of things.  One of them being the dog dishes so he could empty the water bowl and bang it on the floor!
I think I'll call him the light chaser.  Until he gets old enough to have another eye surgery, bright lights are one of his favorite attractions.  He loved the lights on the Christmas tree....
and his light up ball......
and practicing his walking.....

and being a pocketful of sunshine in our lives......

but nothing compares to loving on his grandma.  She loved each minute she got to hold him because right now, at this time in our lives.....................................  these are the moments that take your breath away....

  2. Found your link on Kelly's Korner...I am getting my master's in early intervention, and know the hard that comes along with the good with a child with disabilities. What a JOY Luke seems to be to your family. I have tears in my eyes, and wish your family many more blessings to come with sweet Luke :)

  6. Before even reading your post I began to cry... the title.. Its so true.. This just hits to close to home as both my husband and I have somenoe with downs in our family. Well I did...My uncle... passed away a little over a year ago from it. Terry "mouse' as he was called was a joy to everyone.. & he would light up every room. Christmas was his absolute favorite time of year! & garth brooks.. man did he love him!.. I dont understand how someone can treat someone with downs any differant than anyone else.. it breaks my heart. I wish there was more out there for it & to find a cure. People with downs..melt my heart... there patience with things just so simple amazes me...Glad you wrote about Luke..he is a doll! 8. Stopping in from Kelly's... I love me a baby with Ds. My son is 3, and also happens to have a little something extra. We love him so much, and his designer genes. ;-) Life has been GREAT with him, and I wish everyone could know this joy. EVERY child has their little issues in life, and so we don't focus on what other people consider negative. We just enjoy our life. :-) Loved this post.
