Michael Miller Watermelon Patti Paisley and Ta Dots for Baby Changing Pad

Last week I finished Kelly's baby quilt.  She chose Michael Miller's Watermelon Patti Paisley as her main fabric.  Click here to see the post on the baby quilt.  Today I wanted to use the small amount of scraps I had left from the Patti Paisley to make Kelly a quilted changing pad.  I paired the scraps with some Michael Miller Ta Dot's and love how it turned out.  The changing pad went really fast since I used strips of fabric instead of cutting squares.  The finished changing pad measures 26" X 21".
After I got the strips sewn together I sandwiched the quilt top with the batting and the backing and got it pinned and ready to sew.....
I used my favorite technique of free motion quilting.............
To bind the quilt I used a ta dot in lime green with white dots.....
And since I used the blanket stitch to attach the binding to Kelly's baby quilt, I wanted to hand stitch this binding to make it different.....
I did not think about the color selections while I was putting the changing pad together, but after looking at the pictures of it laying on the grass (or clover in this case!) I noticed that there is a strong "watermelon" color palette going on here!
Which of course is perfect!  Because it matches the name of the Michael Miller's paisley print!
I'm really happy with choosing the red and green ta dot's to go with the paisley.....
And using the red ta dot for the backing gives it a true watermelon color theme!
