Apothecary Jar

A few weeks ago I splurged and bought myself this apothecary jar at Pier One. I had been wanting one for a while but could not find one in the shape I liked. What to put in it ? My plan was to turn it into a seasonal display. I had Googled ideas for apothecary jars to see what others were doing and found dozens of options. One that I had never thought of (and was not seasonal), but sounded pretty and "spa like" was to layer Epsom salt and lavender buds. It was not my original plan, but I thought it might look cool. So I bought a gallon of Epsom salt and some lavender buds and layered it in the apothecary jar. I sat it on my bathroom counter and looked at it for a couple of days and was not thrilled with it. The lavender buds were not a pretty purple and the aroma was too strong. So I threw it out since there was no way to effectively get the salt and buds out separately. In the meantime, I had surfed EBay for Easter decorations and found wooden Easter eggs that were painted dark colors and distressed. I also found some "natural" grass on EBay to sit the eggs in.

Here's the finished product. Still not too sure of it but do like it better than the Epsom salts and lavender buds.

I might try adding more grass and raising some of the eggs higher in the jar.

I was looking for an Easter decoration that did not look geared towards children. I'll save all that stuff for when I get my grand kids!

  1. I love the eggs! Nice.

Back when I worked at the mall MANY years ago ... I used to go to the Pier 1 store there and just wander around for what seemed forever. It's not at the mall anymore and it has changed a bit since then, but I still love browsing there.
